Freedom of Information Act

Open Records provides a mechanism for citizens to inspect or copy government records. It also provides for times in which governmental bodies may elect to, or are required by law to, withhold government records from the public. The City of Georgetown supports a transparency within our local government. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us by email or phone.

Submitting a FOIA Request:

  • By email to the City clerk at jacquelinew@georgetownil.net
  • by mail to the City Hall at 208 S. Walnut St. Georgetown, IL  61846
  • In person during regular office hours
Requests should include:
  • Requester's name
  • Contact information (address, email, or phone number)
  • A clear description of the records being requested

FOIA response time

The City will respond to FOIA requests within 5 Business days as required by the Illinos Freedom of Information Act.  An additional 5 business day extension may be requested when permitted by the act.

Fees

There is no charge for the first 50 pages of black and white copies.  Additional copies may be charged at a rate consistenet with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.  Fees for color copies, oversized documents, or electronic media may apply when applicable.

Good to Know

Please note that for a public information request to be valid, it must be submitted in writing.
